Supporting Your Child’s Growth & Development
From newborns to teenagers, each child’s journey is unique, and so is the care they need.
At InnerBalance Physiotherapy, I provide specialised care for babies, children, and adolescents, supporting healthy development, recovery from injury, and comfort through each stage of growth.
Children’s bodies are constantly changing. Their skeletons, muscles, and connective tissues are still developing, which means they experience and recover from injuries in ways unique to their stage of growth. Using a gentle, whole-body approach, treatment is always adapted to suit your child’s stage of development.
Gentle, Effective Treatment for Babies & Children
For babies and young children, treatment uses extremely gentle manual techniques to help release and balance areas of tension or restriction. This can help ease stress or strain patterns that may be contributing to discomfort, unsettled behaviour, or difficulties with feeding and sleep.
Parents are always welcome to stay close, hold, feed, or comfort their baby during treatment. What matters most is that you and your baby feel relaxed and at ease.
Gentle manual therapy can support babies experiencing:
- Birth-related stress or unresolved tension
- Feeding or digestive difficulties
- Head shape asymmetries and torticollis
- Colic or reflux
- Restless sleep, fussiness, or difficulty settling
Physiotherapy for Older Children & Adolescents
As children grow, their activity levels increase, and with this comes new challenges. Bumps, falls and sports injuries are all part of growing up, but sometimes they need a little extra support to recover well.
Using an integrated manual therapy approach, I work gently but precisely to help restore comfort, improve movement, and build confidence in their bodies.
Physiotherapy for children and young people can help with:
- Sports injuries and trauma
- Growth-related or postural pain
- Muscle, joint, or ligament strains
- Balance and coordination difficulties
- Recovery after surgery or fracture
- Developmental or movement delays
Young people aren’t simply “small adults.” Their anatomy, patterns of movement, and stages of growth require a different approach. Every session is designed to be supportive, age-appropriate, and focused on helping them return to the activities they enjoy: moving freely, comfortably, and with confidence.
Supporting Development & Early Movement Skills
Paediatric physiotherapy can also support a child’s developmental milestones and movement patterns. For children showing signs of delay or challenges with balance and coordination, early assessment and intervention can make a significant difference.
Treatment may include gentle hands-on techniques, play-based activities, and specific exercises to encourage strength, flexibility, and motor development. I also assess for retained primitive reflexes, which can influence posture, balance, and coordination.
Caring for the Whole Family
As parents, you naturally want the best start for your child, and caring for them also means caring for yourself, too. Pregnancy, birth, feeding, and daily lifting or carrying can take a toll on your body.
If you’re experiencing aches or pain, it’s important to look after your own movement and comfort so you can enjoy your time together in those precious early months and years.
Everyone deserves to move comfortably, grow confidently, and thrive. My aim is to support your child’s physical wellbeing, and to help your whole family feel balanced, supported, and well.
