What Is Applied Kinesiology?

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a gentle, non-invasive approach used to assess how the body’s muscular and nervous systems are working together. It explores the relationship between the body’s structural, chemical, and neuro-regulatory systems: an interconnection often referred to as the “triad of health.”

When one part of this system becomes imbalanced, it can lead to symptoms such as pain, fatigue, digestive issues, or hormonal changes. AK helps identify these underlying imbalances so that treatment can be directed at their true source, rather than just the symptoms.

Using specific muscle testing as part of a wider clinical assessment, I evaluate how the body responds to gentle sensory and functional challenges. This process complements standard physiotherapy methods, including clinical history and physical examination findings, to develop a clear understanding of each person’s unique presentation.

Applied Kinesiology can help uncover the contributing factors behind persistent or recurring issues, whether structural, biochemical, or functional in nature. The insights gained are then integrated into your physiotherapy care to guide gentle manual techniques, as well as nutritional or lifestyle advice and targeted rehabilitation.

For those who cannot be muscle tested directly, such as babies, children or people who are unwell or fatigued, modified assessment approaches can still be used safely and effectively.

By viewing the body as an interconnected system, Applied Kinesiology supports your body’s return to a natural state of balance and health, enhancing vitality and long-term wellbeing.
